8-Day Tanzania Safari Itinerary
Day 1: Arrival at Kilimanjaro International Airport and transfer to Arusha. Day 2: Arusha to Lake Manyara National Park. Day 3: Mto wa Mbu to Central Serengeti. Day 4: Western Serengeti safari. Days 5–6: Central Serengeti game drives. Day 7: Serengeti to Ngorongoro. Day 8: Ngorongoro Crater game drive and return to Arusha.
Day 1: Arrive in Tanzania
You will be picked up at the Kilimanjaro International Airport and transferred to your hotel in Arusha town for dinner and an overnight.
Day 2: From Arusha to Lake Manyara to Mto wa Mbu, 1 hr 58 min (114.1 km)
Your guide will pick you up from your accommodation in Arusha in the morning and drive you to Lake Manyara National Park. The park encompasses the northwest bank and part of the alkaline Lake Manyara, which itself rests in the Great Rift Valley. The park is perhaps best known for its flamingos, pelicans, and cormorants, but it is also the home for a few hundred other species of birds; it is therefore a paradise for ornithologists. Baboons and vervet monkeys are also found among the forested areas, and in the more open spaces, giraffes nibble at the fresh leaves while the various types of antelopes common to the region browse for tasty shoots.
Day 3: From Mto wa Mbu to Serengeti, 5 hrs 12 min (269.6 km)
Start your day by leaving for Serengeti National Park (Central Serengeti) via the breathtaking Ngorongoro Highlands. One of the seven natural wonders of Africa, Serengeti National Park is known for its stunning wildebeest migration. The park is home to all the big predators and has a fabulous landscape. We will go back to our accommodation in the late hours, and overnight we will stay in central Serengeti.
Day 4: To Western Serengeti
We leave early for the Western Corridor on the Grumeti River, which is the best place to see the wildebeest migration. You will learn all about the oldest ecosystem on earth and get a chance to enjoy the great show of the wildebeest migration while crossing the Grumeti River.
Day 5 and 6: To Central Serengeti National Park
This morning, we took advantage of the opportunity to take part in another safari drive in this fantastic setting before departing the Western Serengeti. This gives us time to surprise the migratory herds and the dangers and difficult circumstances they encounter every year in their struggle for life. We quickly go back to the relevant area of the Serengeti in the afternoon, and then you are driven to your chosen lodging for the evening's dinner and rest.
Day 7: Central Serengeti to Ngorongoro Crater, 4 hrs 25 min (227.7 km)
Soon after breakfast, you'll experience every other game drive in this brilliant location. This gives us additional time to marvel at the migratory herds and the risks and demanding situations they face every year in their struggle for survival. After a quick afternoon game drive, you'll make your way to the Ngorongoro Crater for dinner and overnight.
Day 8: Full game drive in Ngorongoro Crater and back to Arusha, 2 hrs 42 min (154.6 km)
After breakfast, descend into the Ngorongoro Crater for a full game drive. The crater supports lions, buffaloes, hyenas, hippos, black rhinos, jackals, warthogs, gazelles, and many other species. Enjoy a picnic lunch inside the crater before ascending in the afternoon and driving back to Arusha for your hotel stay or onward travel.
