7 Days Classic Birding Tour Uganda

Day 1: Entebbe City Birding

Upon arrival at Entebbe International Airport, our professional birding guide will warmly welcome you. After refreshments, embark on an Entebbe city tour visiting the Entebbe Botanical Gardens and Uganda Wildlife Education Centre. Expect to spot bird species such as Ruff, Wood Sandpiper, Common Sandpiper, Marsh Sandpiper, Common Greenshank, Long-tailed Cormorant, Great Cormorant, Madagascar Bee-eater, Green Crombec, Orange Weaver, Great Blue Turaco, Ross’s Turaco, Red-chested Cuckoo, Klaas’s Cuckoo, Diederik Cuckoo, Great Reed Warbler, Grey-capped Warbler, Sedge Warbler, Greater Swamp Warbler, Eurasian Reed Warbler, Fan-tailed Widowbird, Striped Kingfisher, Malachite Kingfisher, Giant Kingfisher, Woodland Kingfisher, Pygmy Kingfisher, Golden-backed Weaver, Yellow-backed Weaver, Superb Sunbird, Bare-faced Go-away-bird, Grey Parrot, Brown Parrot, Palm Swift, Little Swift, Entebbe Weaver (an endemic to Uganda, recorded at the site only once), and White-spotted Flufftail. Enjoy dinner and overnight at Entebbe Botanical Resort or Entebbe Airport View Guest House.

Day 2: Mabamba Wetland – Lutembe Bay

After breakfast, pack snacks and receive a briefing from our guide on Uganda’s bird species. Visit Mabamba Bay, an Important Birding Area, with a focus on the threatened Shoebill Stork. Other species include Lesser Jacana, African Jacana, Purple Swamphen, Reed Warbler, Pygmy Goose, Spur-winged Goose, African Marsh Harrier, and Rufous-bellied Heron. Return to the hotel for lunch and relaxation. In the afternoon, drive to Lutembe Bay Beach along the Entebbe–Kampala highway to spot birds like Caspian Tern, Great Knot, Hottentot Teal, Temminck’s Stint, Broad-billed Sandpiper, African Grey Parrot, Broad-billed Roller, Grey Woodpecker, Klaas’s Cuckoo, Diederik Cuckoo, Red-chested Cuckoo, Superb Sunbird, Red-chested Sunbird, Scarlet-chested Sunbird, Collared Sunbird, Green-throated Sunbird, Copper Sunbird, Orange Weaver, Black-headed Weaver, Slender-billed Weaver, and Golden-backed Weaver. Drive to Kampala for dinner and overnight at Emin Pasha Lodge, Serena Hotel, or Cassia Lodge.

Day 3: Kampala – Lake Mburo National Park

After breakfast, drive to western Uganda via the Masaka–Mbarara highway. Stop at the Uganda Equator for photos, informative talks, and to purchase snacks. Proceed to Lake Mburo National Park, known for its Tanzanian plains. Enjoy lunch at the lodge, followed by an evening game drive to spot wildlife and birds such as Impala, Eland, Zebra, Lion, Elephant, Buffalo, Warthog, Temminck’s Courser, Martial Eagle, Rüppell’s Griffon Vulture, White-headed Vulture, Lappet-faced Vulture, Rufous-bellied Heron, Lesser Jacana, Moorhen, and Harlequin Quail from Kaaku Swamp. Dinner and overnight at Mihingo Lodge, Mburo Safari Lodge, Arcadia Cottages, or Mburo Tents.

Day 4: Foot Safari – Boat Ride

Enjoy an early morning breakfast, then trail into the tropical forest with our professional birding guide for birding and fauna-flora viewing. Expected bird species include Coqui Francolin, Crested Francolin, Temminck’s Courser, Martial Eagle, Rüppell’s Griffon Vulture, White-headed Vulture, Lappet-faced Vulture, Rufous-bellied Heron, Lesser Jacana, Moorhen, Harlequin Quail, Red-faced Barbet, and Red-headed Weaver. Return to the lodge for refreshments and lunch. In the afternoon, embark on a boat cruise along Lake Mburo to search for water birds such as African Finfoot, Pelican, Bee-eater, Vulture, and Swallow. Return to the lodge for dinner and overnight.

Day 5: Lake Mburo – Queen Elizabeth National Park

After breakfast, drive to Queen Elizabeth National Park, spotting additional fauna and bird species en route. Enjoy lunch at the lodge, followed by an afternoon boat ride on the Kazinga Channel to view Hippos, Crocodiles, and water birds like African Spoonbill, African Skimmer, Pelican, Bee-eater, Warbler, Swallow, Vulture, and Sparrowhawk. In the evening, visit Katwe Crater Lake to observe Flamingos as the sun sets. Dinner and overnight at Mweya Safari Lodge, Katara Lodge, Enganzi Lodge, Hippo Hill Camp, Simba Camp, or Mweya Hostel.

Day 6: Queen Elizabeth National Park

After breakfast, embark on a full-day birding experience to search for savanna birds such as Common Buttonquail, African Crake, Martial Eagle, African Skimmer, Verreaux’s Eagle-Owl, Black-headed Gonolek, Amur Falcon, Ovambo Sparrowhawk, Lowland Akalat, Greater Flamingo, Lesser Flamingo, Temminck’s Courser, Rüppell’s Griffon Vulture, White-headed Vulture, Lappet-faced Vulture, Harlequin Quail, and Blue Quail. Spot additional wildlife during the excursion. Return to the lodge for lunch and relaxation.

Day 7: Kyambura Gorge – Kampala

After breakfast, take a foot safari or nature walk in Kyambura Gorge, where you’ll observe a variety of birds, fauna, and flora up close. Return to the lodge for lunch, then drive to Entebbe International Airport for your flight home. Meals: Half Board. End of services. “Tuuka Bulungi – Safe Journey – We are happy to host you again!”
