Mount Meru Three Days Hike – 3-Day Trekking Adventure

Mount Meru Three Days Hike is an exciting short trek that offers a perfect blend of adventure, wildlife encounters, and scenic mountain views. Located within Arusha National Park, this hike provides a unique opportunity to explore Tanzania’s second-highest peak, standing at 4,566 meters. The journey begins through lush montane forests rich in wildlife such as giraffes, buffaloes, colobus monkeys, and a variety of bird species. Trekkers are accompanied by an armed ranger throughout the hike, ensuring safety while navigating the park's natural beauty.

As the trail ascends, hikers pass through diverse vegetation zones, including moorlands and alpine deserts, with stunning views of Mount Kilimanjaro in the distance. The final ascent starts in the early morning hours to reach Socialist Peak in time for sunrise, offering breathtaking panoramic views over Arusha, the crater, and the Great Rift Valley. This three-day adventure is ideal for both acclimatization and those looking for a challenging yet less-crowded alternative to Kilimanjaro.

Day 1: Arusha – Momella Gate – Miriakamba Hut

We drive from Arusha to Momela Gate. After a short registration at the Gate, our walk will begin with a fully armed ranger escorting us. Along the way, we can see wild animals including elephants, zebras, giraffes, monkeys, antelopes, and often elephants along the route. Dinner and overnight stay at Miriakamba Hut.

Day 2: Miriakamba Hut – Saddle Hut – Little Meru

The walk from Miriakamba Hut to the saddle below Little Meru is a short day but a steep climb. The walk will take us slowly along the ridge for a spectacular view of the Meru Crater and the impressive Ash Cone. After a hot lunch at Saddle Hut, we can make a short climb to the summit of Little Meru (3,820 m) for superb views just before sunset. Dinner and overnight stay at Saddle Hut.

Day 3: Saddle Hut – Socialist Peak – Miriakamba – Momella Gate – Arusha

We start early at around 1:30 a.m. to climb steeply to Rhino Point (3,800 m) and on to Cobra Point (4,350 m). We reach the summit (4,566 m) for sunrise, with a possibility to see Kilimanjaro Peak above the clouds. The final part of the climb is along a spectacular narrow ridgeline between the sheer inner cliffs and the sloping outer wall of the crater. We take a short rest and brunch at Saddle Hut before continuing the descent to the Momella Gate. The returning transfer will be waiting at Momella Gate to pick you up to your hotel in Arusha/Moshi.
