6 Days Shira Route Kilimanjaro Climbing Package

Our fastest Shira itinerary: drive straight onto the high Shira Plateau, link into the Southern Circuit, and reach Uhuru Peak in six days flat. Built for fit, time-pressed climbers who want Shira's quiet trails without adding an extra night on the mountain.

The shortest way onto the Shira Plateau

This itinerary keeps everything that makes Shira distinctive while trimming the schedule down to the minimum sensible length.

You're driven straight up to the plateau on day one instead of hiking through rainforest, then follow the same Southern Circuit as our 7-day version — Shira 2 Camp, Lava Tower, Barranco, and Barafu — but without the extra acclimatization night at Karanga. That makes this the quickest standard route to Uhuru Peak we offer from the west side of the mountain. It rewards climbers who are already comfortable at altitude or who are working with a fixed travel window, but it does carry a tighter acclimatization curve than our recommended 7-day itinerary, so we ask climbers to be upfront with us about fitness and prior high-altitude experience before booking.

6-Day Shira Route — day by day

Camp names, altitudes, and what to expect on each day of the climb.

Day 1

Londorossi Gate → Simba Camp (≈3,610m)

Drive from Moshi or Arusha to Londorossi Gate for park registration, then continue by 4x4 up a rough track toward the western edge of the Shira Plateau. A short walk from the drop-off point brings you to Simba Camp for the night.

Day 2

Simba Camp → Shira 2 Camp (≈3,850m)

An easy, scenic crossing of the open plateau, passing the jagged Shira Cathedral rock formation, with wide views toward Kibo's summit ice before settling at Shira 2 Camp.

Day 3

Shira 2 Camp → Barranco Camp via Lava Tower (≈3,960m)

A classic "climb high, sleep low" acclimatization day: ascend to Lava Tower at 4,600m, then descend through the otherworldly Senecio forest into Barranco Camp, beneath the looming Barranco Wall.

Day 4

Barranco Camp → Barafu Camp (≈4,640m)

The hands-on (non-technical) scramble up the Barranco Wall opens the day, followed by a longer push across the Karanga Valley straight through to Barafu Camp — this route skips the overnight stop at Karanga that the 7-day itinerary includes.

Day 5

Summit night: Barafu Camp → Uhuru Peak (5,895m) → Mweka Camp (≈3,100m)

A midnight departure, climbing steadily via Stella Point to reach Uhuru Peak around sunrise, followed by a long descent past Barafu Camp down to rest at Mweka Camp.

Day 6

Mweka Camp → Mweka Gate

A final morning descent through rainforest to Mweka Gate, where summit certificates are presented before your transfer back to your hotel in Moshi or Arusha.

6 Days Shira Route — frequently asked questions

Is the 6-day Shira Route enough time to acclimatize?

It's workable but tight. This itinerary moves from Barranco straight to Barafu without an extra night at Karanga, so climbers get less time to adjust than on the 7-day version. We recommend it mainly for climbers who are already well acclimatized or confident in their fitness.

What's included in the 6 days Shira Route package?

Park fees, camping fees, a licensed guide and support crew, porters, a cook, all meals on the mountain, camping equipment, and transport between Moshi or Arusha and the gates. Flights, tips, and personal gear are not included.

How much does the 6 day Shira Route cost?

Pricing typically starts around $1,900 per person and varies with group size and service level. Contact us for a quote tailored to your dates and group.

Can I extend the 6-day Shira Route to 7 days?

Yes. Adding a night at Karanga Camp turns this into our 7-day Shira Route itinerary, which most guides recommend for better acclimatization and a higher summit success rate.
