Your Kilimanjaro adventure begins the moment you arrive at Kilimanjaro International Airport (JRO), where our friendly guide will welcome you warmly and transfer you through the scenic landscapes of northern Tanzania. The drive to Marangu Gate offers glimpses of rolling hills, coffee plantations, and traditional villages, building your excitement for the journey ahead. At Marangu Gate, you will complete all the registration formalities and meet your expert mountain guides, who will brief you on the trek, review your equipment, and ensure you are ready for the climb. From here, you will begin your trek through the lush rainforest, with the sounds of exotic birds and the cool mountain breeze surrounding you. Today’s hike begins with a gradual ascent before crossing the barren lunar landscape of the “Saddle” between Mawenzi and Kibo. You’ll arrive at the campsite nestled at the base of Kibo’s crater wall, where you’ll have time to rest, enjoy an early dinner, and get ready for the summit attempt.
Kibo Huts to Uhuru Peak to Horombo Huts

Elevation (ft): 15,430 ft to 19,341 ft to 12,205 ft
Distance: 22 km
Hiking Time: 10-13 hours
Habitat: Arctic

You will wake up in the middle of the night to begin the final ascent toward the Roof of Africa. The path to Gilman’s Point is steep, and the climb will be taken at a slow, steady pace. From Gilman’s, you’ll traverse the crater rim to reach Uhuru Peak. After a brief stop at the summit to take photos and admire the breathtaking views, you will begin your descent back to Horombo Huts.
