Lemosho Gate to Forest Camp

We depart from Moshi for Lemosho Gate, which takes about 4 hours, where you will complete entry formalities. Then drive to the Lemosho trailhead (another hour to reach the trailhead). Upon arrival at trailhead, we eat lunch, and then commence through undisturbed forest which winds to the first camp site which is Forest camp Know as {Big tree Camp}.

Forest Camp to Shira One Camp

Elevation (ft): 9,500ft to 11,500ft

Distance: 8 km

Hiking Time 5-6 hours

Habitat: Moorland

Full Board at Shira One Camp

We continue on the trail leading out of the forest and into a savannah of tall grasses, heather, and volcanic rock draped with lichen beards. As we ascend through the lush rolling hills and cross several streams, we reach the Shira Ridge before dropping gently down to Shira 1 camp. The view of Kibo from across the plateau is amazing.

Shira 1 Camp to Shira 2 Camp

Full Board at Shira 2 camp

We explore the Shira plateau for a full day. It is a gentle walk east toward Kibo’s glaciered peak, across the plateau which leads to Shira 2 camp on moorland meadows by a stream. Then we Stay at shira 2 camp. A variety of walks are available on Lent Hills making this an excellent acclimatization opportunity. Shira is one of the highest plateaus on earth.

Shira 2 Camp to Lava Tower to Barranco Camp

Distance: 7 km

Full Board at Shira 2 Camp

From the Shira Plateau, we continue to the east up a ridge, passing the junction towards the peak of Kibo. As we continue, our direction changes to the South East towards the Lava Tower, called the “Shark’s Tooth.” Shortly after the tower, we come to the second junction which brings us up to the Arrow Glacier at an altitude of 16,000ft. We now continue down to the Barranco Camp at an altitude of 13,000ft. Here we rest, enjoy dinner, and overnight. Although you end the day at the same elevation as when you started, this day is very important for acclimatization and will help your body prepare for summit day.

Barranco Camp to Karanga Camp

Elevation (ft): 13,000ft to 13,100ft

Distance: 5km

Hiking Time: 4-5 hours

Habitat: Alpine Desert

After breakfast, we leave Barranco and continue on a steep ridge passing the Barranco Wall, to the Karanga Valley campsite. This is a short day meant for acclimatization.

Karanga Camp to Barafu Camp

Elevation (ft): 13,100ft to 15,300ft

Distance: 4 km

Hiking Time: 4-5 hours

Habitat: Alpine Desert

After breakfast, we leave Karanga Camp and hit the junction which connects with the Mweka Trail. We continue up to the Barafu Camp. At this point, you have completed the South Circuit, which offers views of the summit from many different angles. Here we make camp, rest, enjoy dinner, and prepare for the summit day. The two peaks of Mawenzi and Kibo are to be seen from this position.

Barafu Camp to Uhuru Peak Summit to Mweka Camp

Elevation (ft): 15,300ft to 19,345ft (and down to 10,000ft)

Distance: 5 km ascent / 12 km descent

Hiking Time: 7-8 hours ascent / 4-6 hours descent

Habitat: Arctic

Full Board at Mweka Camp. In the early hours between midnight and 2 a.m., begin the final push to the summit, ascending steep scree slopes between the Rebmann and Ratzel glaciers toward Stella Point, the most challenging section of the trek. Pause at Stella Point (18,600?ft) to enjoy, weather permitting, a breathtaking sunrise, then continue through possible snow for about an hour to reach Uhuru Peak, the highest point in Africa. After the summit, descend straight to Mweka Camp, stopping at Barafu for lunch, using trekking poles and gaiters for the loose gravel. Arrive at Mweka Camp in the upper forest, where mist or rain is common, and enjoy your final dinner and a well-earned rest.

Mweka Camp to Moshi

Elevation (ft): 10,000ft to 5,400ft

Distance: 10 km

Hiking Time: 3-4 hours

Half Board

After breakfast we continue the descent down to the Mweka Park Gate to receive your summit certificates. At lower elevations, it can be wet and muddy. Gaiters and trekking poles will help. Shorts and t-shirts will probably be plenty to wear (keep rain gear and warmer clothing handy). Africa Natural Tours vehicle will be waiting for you at Mweka gate to drive you back to the hotel in Moshi at your mid-range hotel.

Kilimanjaro International Airport (JRO) to Tarangire National Park's Kuro Airstrip

After breakfast, transfer to Kilimanjaro International Airport (JRO) for your flight to Tarangire’s Kuro Airstrip. On arrival, meet your driver-guide for a safari briefing and settle at the lodge for lunch. In the afternoon, head out for a game drive across Tarangire’s savannahs, where giant elephants, giraffes, wildebeests, zebras, antelopes, and lions roam. As the sun sets, return to lodge for dinner and overnight stay.

Tarangire National Park to Ngorongoro Conservation Area

After breakfast, explore Tarangire’s vast landscapes in a morning time, marked by towering baobabs and deserted termite mounds. Herds of elephants dominate the golden plains while colorful lovebirds call from treetops. Watch for lions, giraffes, warthogs, ostriches, buffaloes, and cheetahs as you journey through the park. In the late afternoon, continue to Ngorongoro Conservation Area for dinner and overnight at your lodge.

Ngorongoro Crater Game Drive Safari

After breakfast, descend into Ngorongoro Crater for a full-day safari in one of the most wildlife-rich areas on earth. The crater floor teems with animals, making it possible to see all Big Five in one day. Enjoy a picnic lunch beside the lake as flamingos wade nearby, then continue to spot zebras, wildebeest, hippos, hyenas, and countless bird species. Return in the late afternoon to your lodge for dinner and overnight.

Transfer to Central Serengeti National Park

After breakfast, depart Ngorongoro Crater via the scenic crater rim, heading toward Serengeti National Park. Along the route, watch for wildlife before entering the endless plains of Tanzania’s oldest and most famous park. Known for the Great Migration and thriving predators, Serengeti is a World Heritage Site and true wonder. Enjoy a picnic lunch at a kopje before your afternoon game drive, then settle at your lodge for dinner and overnight.

Central to North Serengeti National Park (Kogatende)

After breakfast, journey north Serengeti National Park to Kogatende, the heart of the Great Wildebeests Migration. Along the way, search the open plains and rocky outcrops for lions, cheetahs, and leopards. At the Mara River, herds of wildebeests and zebras gather, preparing to face crocodile-filled waters during the dramatic crossing. With patience, you may witness this breathtaking spectacle. In the evening, return to lodge for dinner and overnight stay.

North Serengeti National Park Game Drive Safari

Spend two full days exploring Kogatende and Bologonja, focusing on the Great Wildebeests Migration. Follow wildebeest herds as they graze across sweeping grasslands, watched closely by predators.
