Marangu Gate to Mandara Hut
Your Kilimanjaro adventure begins in Moshi with a transfer to Marangu Gate, the main starting point for the Marangu Route. After completing park registration and the required entry procedures, you meet your mountain guide and support crew before beginning the trek. The trail enters the beautiful montane forest, where you walk at a steady group pace through a cool and shaded environment. Your guide will help establish a comfortable rhythm while monitoring the group as you gradually gain altitude. After several hours of trekking, you arrive at Mandara Hut, where you have dinner and spend the night preparing for the next stage of the climb.

Mandara Hut to Horombo Hut
After breakfast, you continue from Mandara Hut toward Horombo Hut. The landscape gradually changes as you leave the forest behind and enter the moorland zone, with wider views of the surrounding mountain environment. The trail continues uphill at a controlled pace, allowing the group to adjust gradually to the increasing altitude. Along the way, you may enjoy views toward Mawenzi and the surrounding slopes depending on weather and visibility. After reaching Horombo Hut, you settle into your accommodation, enjoy dinner and rest for the next demanding stage of the climb.

Horombo Hut to Kibo Hut
Today you leave Horombo Hut and continue toward Kibo Hut across the high-altitude landscape. The vegetation becomes increasingly sparse as the route enters the alpine desert zone. You cross the broad saddle between Mawenzi and Kibo, with the imposing Kibo summit becoming increasingly prominent ahead. The pace remains slow and controlled as the altitude increases. After reaching Kibo Hut, you have dinner and receive a summit briefing from your guide. You prepare your summit clothing, water, headlamp and personal equipment before getting an early rest because the summit attempt begins during the night.

Kibo Hut to Uhuru Peak to Horombo Hut
The summit day begins in the early hours of the morning. You leave Kibo Hut with your guide and begin the challenging ascent toward Gilman’s Point and the upper slopes of Kibo. The pace is deliberately slow to help the group manage the altitude and demanding terrain. Continuing along the crater rim, you proceed toward Uhuru Peak, the highest point on Mount Kilimanjaro at 5,895 meters and the highest point in Africa.
After reaching Uhuru Peak, you have time for photographs and to appreciate the summit environment, subject to weather and safety conditions. You then begin the descent toward Kibo Hut before continuing to Horombo Hut. The descent is important because it allows you to leave the highest elevations behind. After arriving at Horombo Hut, you enjoy dinner and a well-earned overnight rest.

After breakfast, you begin your final descent from Horombo Hut toward Marangu Gate. The trail passes again through the moorland and montane forest zones, providing a noticeable change in vegetation as you descend.
